The Shrinking World

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

It made me happy to see that this existed.  I’m glad boundaries are being broken and this stew we call America is simmering nicely.  Now it would really make my day if there was a video out there of a bluegrass group who made a song in favor of an Obama presidency.  Or an electronic music musician who made a pro-McCain dance track.  Then the universe would truly click with me.

This One’s Going Out to You!

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

As I’ve written somewhere before (I don’t think it was this site, but if it was I apologize for being so redundant) my true secret passion in life is music.  If I had the hard-boiled huevos to realize my deams I’d probably pick up my guitar more than once a week and sharpen my musical accumen.  But lucky for those who like this comic my huevos are as soft-boiled as this joke.  So it is into this medium where I pour my blood, sweat, tears, and a secret blend of three other bodily fluids.  I call the mix “Nacho’s Supreme” and it’s the bridge between man and MSG.

Anyhow, I came across a music profile site that’s the most fun of any music profile site I’ve seen.  The site is called LastFM, and it’s probably been around for a long time and I’m just miserably behind the curve, as is my wont.  Anyhow, my profile can be viewed HERE. And feel free to bypass that and just check the site out, it’s an asset for discovering music you shouldn’t live without.

The main reason I write today, and it just right now felt like a lame reason, is because on my birthday I embarked upon the task of listening to every one of my songs in alphabetical order.  It seemed like an interesting way to take in my music that I’d never get the opportunity to do if technology and ITunes hadn’t come along and totally made life worth living!  My birthday was March 20th, and I just finished the last song.  The reason it took so very long is because as of this writing I have 11,608 songs.

What have I learned from this experiment?

•I probably have some sort of neurological disorder.

•My ideas are frequently poorly thought out.

•The S’s easily took the longest to get through, meaning the letter ‘S’ has some sort of talismanic quality in music.

•I will never perform this experiment again.

•I continue to love music more than any man should.
