New Comics: Man or Myth?

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

I don’t know if anyone is curious as to why I haven’t been updating my comics here.  But I intend to answer for myself anyhow.  You see, after switching over to this new Apple Mac computer, I still have to get a good image-manipulation software (Photoshop for my money) going on it so I can fix up images where I smudged the ink and add color.  I could put up the comics I already have waiting to go, but I don’t want to have to explain my way through the mistakes.  I’ve got too much dignity for that.

Upcoming topics I deal with in my comics include, but are not limited to:  settling for a bad career, referencing commercials from the 80’s, bigotry in the animal kingdom, and breast cancer.  Just joking about the cancer, only a self-important fool would put breast cancer in his comics!  Keep checking back, I expect to be back in gear this coming Monday.

Spring Blinging

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

Is “bling” still a word?  I remember a few years back it was added to actual print versions of the dictionary.  That way, in a few years when our civilization is nothing more than smoking remains, the new conquerers of our land can survey the ruins, poke around the burnt scaffolding that used to be the Library of Congress, pick of a charred page of a dictionary, quickly scan it, and realize that they made the right decision in incinerating us.

But that’s not why I write.  I write to update the readers of the site who, God help them, are curious as to what’s been cooking here.  As my enthusiasm levels for marking my territory on the internet have not yet lowered (as my enthusiasm levels for everything always do by now), I have decided to come across as more of a delicious consomme professional.  You may have noticed, reader who is probably me, that I have at long last added a banner image to this site, so I am finally one step above bare bones here.  Over the coming weeks/months/however-long-it-takes-me, there will be further changes and improvements to this site.  The quality of the comics will remain relatively low as to give other artists something to eclipse.

So thank you for visiting this site.  I can assure you this will be an interesting time to be here.  I’m not losing interest this time.

Love,

Eric “Sassy Landlord” Peterson.

Artcore Nudity (Because I’m Naked to the World, See?)

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

Computers have always been a weak spot in my suit of armor that is knowledge, but I’ve been working diligently to become more adept with them. It has, apparently, not been enough.

A site called StumbleUpon has caught wind of this site and it is now directing a load of traffic onto it. So, to the original person who “stumbled upon” (you see, I’m getting the lingo) my humble comic offerings, I thank you for deeming it worthy of a nod. Your taste is obviously impeccable.

And I thank the users who are now showing up. Forgive the mess. People of your stature deserve a better show. You, you are the new record producers, casting agents, and publishers! You now hold the fate of my artistic soul in your sweaty, be-ringed fingers!

Seriously though, if you like what you see, let me know. If not, please direct me to people who can appreciate this comic (grandparents, perhaps?).

Also, I’ve been accepted as a member of the site Comic of the Month. It’s a choice group of comic artists who share a similar aesthetic, and it’s the kind of thing I’ve wanted to be a part of for a long while. So that’s what the thing at the top of the page is. So you see, it’s all coming together. Maybe it was a good thing I didn’t pay much attention in school. I never would have been able to focus on my drawing.

Thanks for reading.

Lightning in a Bottle

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

For some reason, focus seems to be getting easier to come by, which is a blessing for a perennially lazy guy like myself. So, readership, here are some of my imminent plans for this site (provided stupid real life doesn’t intervene like it always does):

1. Involve in the content of this site my two closest friends, Steven and Damian, the inspiration (obviously) for the Steven and Damian characters in the comic. Details to come if this in fact becomes a reality, which I hope it does.

2. Redesign the site so it doesn’t look identical to every other damned comic site on the internet. Since my brain shuts down when it comes to HTML and those sorts of things, this one may take forever/never happen.

3. Transport my creative output from other site to this page. This includes My Space, Flickr, Facebook, and all the other unnecessary sites where I at one time thought it important to be. I pay to host this stupid site, I might as well make it my go-to-guy for making my presence known on the internet.

4. Draw more stuff for the site that isn’t comics. My site needs more art, and more of my art needs to be out on the internet, pimping my site. Then, when it returns to my site, my site will physically abuse it and make it wish it had never been drawn. God, I hope my art gets the help it needs.

And I think that’s it. I’ll just limit it to that for now so I don’t feel overwhelmed and join a monastery. But that seems like a start. Yes, in the 5 or so months that I’ve owned this site I think it’s coming along alright. Stick around, readership. I’m in this for the long haul, and you’d make a great co-pilot.

(This is you in awe of me)

Freedom kisses,

Eric

Trudging Towards Valhalla: Comic News Updates

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Hello, internet site! Please forgive my relative absence over the last week or so. Believe it or not, the real life of a cartoonist occasionally becomes interesting, and things have been resembling the life of a real person lately!

I will start at the relative beginning. I have always been drowning in my thoughts, but it had been worse for the last few weeks. I decided to be alone with my thoughts on Memorial Day and went on a casino junket on a bus full of senior citizens. I figured flashing lights and ringing bells would be a nice place for my thoughts to die. And it worked, to a degree. I emerged with slightly more wherewithall, a nebulous substance. So I’ve got a little more motivation now, and here are some of the things I’ve accomplished recently.

1. I have decided to get a booth at the upcoming Alternative Press Expo that will be in San Francisco on November 1st and 2nd in San Francisco. I will provide more updates on this as it develops. But I figure I’m going to have to up comic and merchandise production in the next few months so I don’t make a total buffoon of myself.

2. I went down to the California Board of Equalization and got the necessary permits to sell stuff in California, so now I effectively have my own business. It may not be badass, but it feels badass.

3. I bought a Wacom Tablet and am learning how to use it. Currently I’ve used it only for touching things up in the comics I draw by hand and then scan into the computer, but the next comic I post will have been done entirely on the tablet. Review of the tablet so far: a slight learning curve, but thoroughly essential for comic artists who use the computer as an integral component of their comic.

I think that’s it. It feels like I’ve done more, but I guess I was just fooling myself. But, having dealt exclusively in small potatoes in the past, I can tell that what I am immersing myself in now has nothing to do with small potatoes. These potatoes are fucking huge.

Love,

Eric
