Mine’s Not a High Horse
And so begins my campaign to show more vividly the town of Jerkwater.
I remember when I started putting my comics up on ComicsSherpa I got some anonymous advice to not draw a bunch of stuff in the background, an affectation I had grown fond of. I figured that these characters are living in a real world and it’s my job to illuminate it. But I guess it’s commonly held that cluttered drawings repel the eye and make for a less pleasant comic-reading experience. So I toned it down.
But lately I’ve been itching to draw more in my comics, and I think I may have developed a more pleasant way of doing it. Hopefully.

It’s a good idea to do the backgrounds to build the world these
characters inhabit. The advantage of doing strips like that, is sometimes
the characters and their world can write the punchlines for you. Also, it’s
a good opportunity to throw little “easter eggs” in there!

I would say keep the backgrounds. No point in getting rid of them, if you want to draw their world do it.
I tend to do backgrounds in most of my comics as well, because it makes it more interesting then a simple 2 tone.
by the way, this comic reminds me of me.
